James G. Ficklin
Jas. G. Ficklin, son of John and Sarah Ann Ficklin, was born on the 20th of January, 1849, in Bath county, Kentucky, where he grew to manhood. In the year 1870, when only 21 years of age, he was elected Sheriff of the county and held the office until January, 1873. On the 3rd of April, 1873, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Pillow Dawson, daughter of Jeff Dawson of Bath county. In the spring 1876 they came to Cass Co., Mo. In the year 1882 he moved to Clinton Co., Mo., near Converse, where he lived until 1894 when he moved to Gentry Co., Mo., where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a zealous member of the church and he loved the gospel of Christ, the only hope of the world.

He was the oldest of 10 living children, five brothers and four sisters – Mrs. M. M. Hazelrigg, Mr. Jno. L. McComick, Mrs. S. M. Young, Mrs. A. S. Hillix, Thos. Ficklin, John Ficklin, Robt. Ficklin, Stewart Ficklin, and Harry Walker Ficklin, who with his wife are willing for the people with whom he has lived to place their own estimate on his life and labor among them.

James G. Ficklin died at his home in the north part of King City, Mo., 4:05 a.m., Sunday, March 25, 1906. The funeral services were held at the home at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 28. The services were conducted by Mr. T. J. Hasty and Mr. Thos. Ficklin, a brother of the deceased. The interment was in the city cemetery. Many relatives from a distance, and many friends and acquaintances attended the last sad rites of a man universally respected, esteemed and loved. Truly a good man has gone from our midst and one that will be much missed. The bereaved wife and relatives have the earnest sympathy of all. May the life of the deceased be an example to and for the living.
