JOSEPH PAUL STRIKER enlisted in the Army and served in Korea from January 10, 1951, to February 28, 1953, with the 25th Division, also the 1st Cavalry and the 2nd Division (Indian Head) F Company 9th Infantry Regiment. Paul was awarded and received the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received as a result of enemy action in Korea. He was honorably awarded the Certificate of Retirement as a testimonial of Honor and Faithful Service to the United States. Paul was a loving husband for 55 years. He and his wife raised four fine children and is survived by his wife and three children: his oldest son, a Vietnam era War Army Veteran, his only daughter, and a third son. He was preceded in death by his second son. Paul worked and gave 30 years as a machinist in Civil Service at North Island Naval Air Station rework facility, San Diego. He excelled as a Master Machinist, earning and receiving many awards for his beneficial suggestions to reduce the cost of operations and still maintain a quality product. He is a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Paul is survived by his namesake, and nine other grandchildren, (one is currently in the U.S. Navy as a CB), his mother Marie Lowry, 94; three sisters and his youngest brother. Services will be held at Featheringill Helix View Chapel, 9631 Campo Road, Spring Valley, CA 91977, June 18, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. Military Graveside Honors and Interment Services are immediately following at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 3751 Market Street, San Diego. Reception to follow at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Otto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Disabled American Veterans. (Living people names removed.)
