"Jack" was the son of Ellen (Frost) Haley Waring & John W. Haley, Sr. who was vice president of the former Narragansett Brewing Co. & the RI Historian for over 25 years.
Jack grew up in Providence, RI, summered in Bristol and had lived in Barrington, RI for 41 years. He attended Providence Country Day School & Moses Brown School, both in Providence. He also attended Brown University & Emerson College. In 1941 he graduated as valedictorian of his class from the Augusta Military Academy, Staunton, VA.
He was employed for many years as production manager for the former Douglas Young Inc. in Pawtucket. (His wife's father's business). He also worked for C & C Yacht in Portsmouth for several years. An Army veteran of World War II, he achieved the rank of captain & earned several awards, including the Purple Heart. He served in the European theater, including the Battle of the Bulge & the liberation of concentration camps. He was seriously injured during the war and those injuries troubled him for his entire life.
Jack was a member & past Master of Adelphi Lodge #33 AF&AM, E. Prov., a member of the University Glee Club, Barrington Yacht Club & Anawan Club of Rehoboth, MA. He was a wood craftsman and enjoyed building boats.
He was the husband of Jean (Young) Haley. They had 3 children: Bill, John & Dwight; 3 grandchildren.
