Mrs. Lucille Williams Bishop, 95, of McKenney, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013.
She was born Oct. 21, 1917, the daughter of the late Myrtie Hudgins and Robert Thweatt Williams. She was the widow of George Cabell Bishop. Lucille was predeceased by four sisters, two brothers and a grandson.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Jones and husband, Roger Pryor, of Sutherland, and Norma Jean Matthews and husband, E.B., of Lake Gaston. Her two sons are William C. "Sonny" Bishop of McKenney and Robert Bruce Bishop (Paige) of Powhatan. Lucille is survived by seven grandchildren, Glenda Sue Maitland (Reese), Ann Pryor Bishop (Billy), Greg Jones (Kristi), Marc Matthews (Ann), Clay Matthews (Hunter), Bruce Bishop and Michael Bishop; nine great-grandchildren, Tanner, Ashton and Ann Cabell Bishop, Ashley Brooke Perkinson (Brad), Karlie Jones, Payne and Levi Matthews, Taylor Matthews and Chloe Sue Bishop; a great-great-grandson, Jackson Perkinson; and a granddog, Angel Lynn. She is survived by a sister, Margaret W. Lewis of Dinwiddie; sister-in-law, Annie Lee Bishop of Richmond; and brother-in-law, Norman Pinkleton (Liz) of Chesterfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lucille was a dedicated member of Mansons United Methodist Church for 75 years. She enjoyed the United Methodist Women's Group, and all of the church members and neighbors were very special to her. She was a gracious and caring person. She enjoyed gardening and shared her vegetables with many people until she was 90 years old. We all enjoyed her good Southern cooking and she will be missed greatly, especially by her family. The family expresses its heartfelt appreciation to the Dunlop Assisted Living staff in Colonial Heights, where she spent her last five years, and to her dear friends and pastors who called, sent cards, and visited faithfully.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Mansons United Methodist Church, 17211 Mansons Church Road, McKenney, VA 23872, with the Rev. Dr. Karen Workman officiating. Burial will take place in Butterwood Methodist Church Cemetery, 2411 Darvills Road, Blackstone, VA 23824. Following the burial, the family will receive friends for a reception at the Mansons United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mansons United Methodist Church in care of Mildred Spiers, 19516 Depot Road, McKenney, VA 23872.
