Thelma Block, 93, of Rockford, formerly Freeport, passed away at River Bluff Nursing Home on March 7, 2013. Born in Freeport, on March 26, 1919 to Edward and Augusta (Burckhardt) Schauer, Thelma lived in Freeport for 87 years. She graduated from Freeport High School and went on to work in the office at Raleigh's. She was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Thelma married Frank Block in 1950, they divorced in 1967.
Thelma enjoyed traveling West to see her special cousins, Norma (Jerry) Kennedy and their children. She also loved going to Wisconsin with friends.
Survived by daughter, Bonnie (Jack Kozuszko) Fox of Rockford, cousin Norma (Jerry) Kennedy, of Danville, Ky., and their children, Lisa (Tim) Pellicano of Kentucky and Dan Kennedy of California, nephews, Bud (Jan) Schauer of Florida, Tom (Vicki) Schauer of Evanston, niece, Vicki Schauer of Freeport and special friend, Sylvia (Sward) Farley of Colorado.
She was predeceased in death by her parents and brothers, Elmer and Oliver Schauer.
The family would like to thank all her loving caregivers.
As per Thelma's wishes, she will be cremated and a celebration of life will take place from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the White Eagle Club, 231 15th Ave. on Sunday, March 10, 2013.
