She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elsie Austin of Mobile, Alabama.

At the age of 6, she entered Holy Angels School for Downs Syndrome children. This school was started by the Sisters of Our Sorrows in Clark, LA and later moved to a new location in Shreveport, LA. Beth was a resident there for the remainder of her life. She was active in sports and won medals as a gymnast in the Special Olympics. She loved swimming and enjoyed the high dive.
