Kenneth D. Thompson, 87 of Monroe died at 10:07 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been in poor health for several years.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Nathaniel Clawson will officiate with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park LaSalle under the auspices of V.F.W. Post 1138 Monroe.
Born June 14, 1925 in Monroe he was the son of George D. and Eva M. (Smith) Thompson. He married Geraldine M. Lentz on June 27, 1946 in Covington, Kentucky.
He served in the U.S. Navy from May 4, 1943 to April 23, 1946.
Kenneth was a mechanic and was employed at LaSalle Motor Clinic, Sealtest in Monroe and Zorn's Garage. He retired in 1990.
He enjoyed hunting and tinkering with electronics.
Surviving are his wife Geraldine Thompson of Monroe; six children, James C. (Linda) Thompson of Monroe, Michael K. (Charlene) Thompson of LaSalle, Barbara J. Goetz of Monroe, Gerald R. (Dianne) Thompson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, George F. (Nancy) Thompson of Erie and Brenda G. (Mark) West of Monroe; two brothers, Dale (Sally) Thompson of LaSalle and Gerald Thompson of Iron Mountain; a sister, Margaret Nation of Monroe; twenty one grandchildren, forty three great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nicole Baer; a son-in-law, Richard Goetz; a brother, George Thompson and a sister, Thelma Mrock.
