Thomas Peter Terrell, Confederate veteran, was born in 1833, in Coweta County, Georgia, to Dr. William Alexander and Sophia H. Wingfield Terrell. On June 23, 1859, he married Mary P. Parnell. Thomas enlisted in the Confederate Army in the spring of 1862. After traveling to Waco, he was mustered into Company D of the 12th Texas Infantry, which was also known as the 8th Regiment and Young's Regiment.
After the War, Thomas most likely returned to Grimes County, but eventually moved to Ellis County. Suffering from paralysis, Thomas moved to Austin on December 7, 1894, to live in the Texas Confederate Home, where he died two years later on January 23, 1896. He was buried in the Texas State Cemetery the next day.
