As a result of the bombings, three people died, including two young women and an eight-year-old boy. Hundreds were injured, many of them having lost limbs. The two brothers later shot and killed an MIT police officer, Sean Collier, stealing his gun and hijacking a car and driver, as well as seriously wounding a second officer during the shootout.
