Elizabeth Bard was born, Ann Elizabeth Campbell in 1850 in Brooke, West Virginia. In 1877, she married James Fletcher Bard who she divorced in 1901. After the divorce Elizabeth lived in Seattle, WA with her son Darcy and his family. In 1930 when she moved to Boulder, Colorado to live with her sister, where she remained until her death. Elizabeth gained notoriety in 1945 when her granddaughter, Betty MacDonald, portrayed her as "Gammy" an eccentric frontier woman who wore her corsets upside down, and a terrible cook in the bestselling novel, "The Egg and I." Elizabeth died on December 14th, 1936 from peritonitis.
