Sylvia Adams, age 94, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Sigourney Care Center. Sylvia was born on June 7, 1918, in Elberon, Iowa, the daughter of Emil J. and Marie(Pitha)Kucera. She graduated from Elberon High School and the Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids. Sylvia moved to Sigourney in 1937. On December 12, 1937 she married Don Junior Adams at the Sigourney Mehtodist Parsonage. She was a homemaker. Sylvia was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church, where she served on many boards, committees and programs, 70-year member and past president of Chapter L, P.E.O. and was Past Worthy Matron of Aspasia Chapter #198 Order of the Eastern Star. She and Don wre Howkeye sports fans and world travelers. Sylvia was a talented musician, beautiful seamstress and highly respected artist. She became a resident at the Sigourney Care Center in 2004.

Survivors include two children: Don Adams III and wife Joanne(Beggs)of Sterling Heights, MI and Bette Jean Amble and husband Bruce of Carterville, IL; five grandchildren: Valerie(Cliff)Weyhing of Shelby Township, MI, Mark(Stacy)Adams of New Hudson, MI, Michael Amble of Lenoir City, TN, Matthew(Rececca)Amble of Marseilles, IL and Rebecca(Brad)Craig of Lindenhurst, IL; seven great grandchildren: Joshua and Rachel Weyhing, Jacob and Daniel Adams, Jeremiah Amble, Caroline and Nicholas Amble; her sister: Marcella Baugh of Cedar Rapids; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Don.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 am on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church with Rev. Rich Pieppert officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm on Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourneiy is caring for Sylvia and her family.
