Matthew attended Valley Christian School grade school through high school. He played the baritone in the band and was a member of the National Honor Society. He attended the University of Montana business college for 1 1/2 years.
In March 2009, he joined the U.S. Army and served for three years. He was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., and South Korea. He excelled at the physical training during boot camp and graduated with honors. He was honorably discharged with several medals and ribbons to his credit.
Matthew enjoyed music, played the guitar, sang and wrote very expressive poetry. Throughout his life, he impacted many others through his generosity and loyalty as a friend.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Joan Stiles. Survivors include his grandparents Lloyd and Phyllis Charlick of Delta, Colo., and Alan and Shirley Dale of Buena Vista, Colo.; parents Terry and Debbie Charlick of Missoula; sister Marjorie Charlick of Oregon; and brother Thad Charlick, sister-in-law Becky and their children Raquelle, Titus, Keziah and Annabelle of Salem, Ore.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 6, at the Valley Christian School gym on Sunset Lane. A military committal service will be follow at 5 p.m. at the veterans cemetery on 1911 Tower St.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to World Vision, Youth for Christ or Valley Christian School in his memory.
