Richard L. Knost, 82, of Erie, Pa., passed away Aug. 10, 2013, at UPMC Hamot.

He was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., on Oct. 5, 1930, a son of the late George B. and Garnet Ruby Hart Knost.

He graduated from Vincent High School in Ohio and then went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. Richard worked as a tool and die maker for Lord Corporation prior to starting his own business Knost Builders where he specialized in custom cabinets and homes. His custom-built cabinets are in several homes in Erie, Parkersburg, W.Va., and Marietta, Ohio. He was a member of Erie Church of Christ, the Presque Isle Travelers RV Club, the Home Builders Association and past president of Presque Isle Field Archers. Richard enjoyed traveling in his RV, loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter and enjoyed going to the Warren County Fair for over 35 years, his last visit being Wednesday, Aug. 7 of this year.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Ruble Knost; and a brother, Darrell C. Knost of Marietta, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Shick Knost; two daughters, Dianne Lynne Brown and Cheryl Ann Boyd and her husband, Bill, of Erie; two sons, Brian Lane Knost and his wife, Angie, of Williamstown, W.Va., and Richard Eric Knost of Erie; two stepdaughters, Denise Hall and Danielle Nietubyc; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister, Thelma Curtis of Columbus, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Nina Mae Knost of Marietta, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St., Erie, Pa., on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at Erie Church of Christ, 2317 W. Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16506, with Gale Thornton officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
