Mr. Brown was a continuous resident of Athens for over 80 years. He was born in Farmsville on Sept 10, 1859, a son of the late Horace Brown and at the age of 17 he learned the harness making trade with Sam Boddy, as an apprentice. He continued to work forhim for some years, and in 1890 he opened his own business, which he carried on for 50 years. He was a charter member of the Plum Hollow and Lake Eloida Telephone co., and its treasurer for a long time. For a while the switchboard was situated in a part of his shop. He married Nellie Manhard of Fairfield in 1932. Mr. Brown later went to Baltimore, Maryland to spend his declining years with his only son Hilliard and he died there on December 11, 1951.
