Beulah Powell Burdette, 68, of Berea, died Sunday, September 29, 2013 at her residence following an illness. She was a Rockcastle County native born December 5, 1944, daughter of the late Roy and Anna Jones Powell, retired Pattie A. Clay Hospital employee, and resident of Rockcastle County most of her life. Beulah was a pillar in New Hope Holiness Church where she taught Sunday School, was known as the "Mother of the Church" and called Mamaw by the children of the church.
Survivors include her loving husband, Cecil Burdette; 8 children, Marsha Wolfinbarger, Timothy (Theresa) Burdette, Ben (Claudia) Burdette, Kelvin Burdette, Donita (Adam) Blanton, Greta Burdette, Hannah (Brien) Begley, Harold Burdette; 5 siblings, Margarette Gadd, Franklin Powell, Judy Carpenter, Chester Powell, Joyce Hobbs; 13 grandchildren, Josh, Zach, Benecia, Joseph, Marcus, Kaitlyn, Brooklyn, Eli-sha, Spencer, Stormi, Sophie, Chloe, Lydia; 3 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brooklyn, Caiden; as well as a host of relatives, friends, and church family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 1 sister, Janice Gadd.
Funeral Service 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 3, 2013 at New Hope Holiness Church with Pastors Harold Eads, Greg Cress and Luther Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Saylor Cemetery at Brindle Ridge. Visitation after 6:00 PM, Wednesday at the church. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Wayne Gadd, Rodney Tyree, Adam Blanton, Brien Begley, Ricky Cress, Ben Burdette.
