Ruby was born December 24, 1927 in Hicks, LA. She was called to her Heavenly home September 16, 2013. Ruby was of the Baptist faith. She loved animals and loved to race horses. Ruby loved her family and was a wonderful mother. Ruby was an assistant Post Mistress in Leander, LA for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Gethren Herman Nichols; Parents: Raliegh Hagan and Emily Jeter Hagan; Sister: Ebbie Busby; brothers: W. J. "Junior" Hagan and James Austin Hagan. Left to cherish her memories are two daughters, Barbara (Charles) Richey of Hineston, La and Lisa (Doug) Nowlin of Pine Bluff, AR. Two grandchildren, Scottie Richey of Hineston and Jennifer (Michael) Bowie of Dry Prong, LA. Three great grandchildren, Ryan Hunter Richey, Dylan Richey and Austin Bowie.
My parents married on May 22, 1945 in a double ceremony with her brother, W. J. "Junior" Hagan and Leola Smith Hagan.
My mother was a home maker most of her life, although she did work a few jobs now and then. She was the assistant post mistress at the post office in Leander, LA, she was the Housekeeper for a while at the Sheraton Inn at Kenner, LA and she worked as the parts person for my father's helicopter business in Mobil, AL in the early 60's. She also owned Throughbred race horses, racing and breeding them.
Ruby grew up under hard circumstances. Her mother died when she was 10 years old, and her father passed two years later when she was 12. She was raised by her uncle, Jim Hagan, until she met and married Gethren, my father, at the age of 15.
She gave birth to my sister, Barbara and later in life I came along. There is a 12 year age gap between the two of us, so Mother and Daddy pretty much had two families!
I loved my mother very much, and not a day has gone by that I don't feel blue when thinking about her. I would have loved to have known "Ruby" and not just my mother. Would have liked to know the person that other people knew. I know that someday I will see her again, and I hope we can make up for all the lost time and the things we never got around to doing together.
Love you Momma.
