Lee was a chief warrant officer in the U.S. Army and served his country proudly. Lee was the former chief of police at Carthage, from 1960 to 1968, and he was the Jasper County Sheriff from 1977 to 1988. Survivors include his only son, John and wife, Sharon, ; four grandchildren, Shannon and husband, Chase Emery, John Brandon Boatwright, Jason Lee Boatwright, and Stacy Boatwright and fiance, David Kooy; two step granddaughters, Kim Odell, and Shannon and husband, Chap Linder, of Carl Junction; three great-grandchildren, Draydon, Cade and Averi Emery; two brothers, Jerry Boatwright, of Stanberry, and John Boatwright, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two sisters, Ruby Gregory of Stanberry, and Vernie Simmons. Mr. Boatwright has been taken for cremation as he requested.
