Funeral services for George W.
Neal, prominent N & W Railway
brakeman, were held Sunday after-
noon in the First Methodist
Church with the Revs. Carriger
and Greenleaf in charge.
Mr. Neal was born in Winston-
Salem, North Carolina, May 2,
1883. He was killed near Bandy,
Va., Friday afternoon while in
the discharge of his duties.
George, as he was known to
his many friends, had been a
resident of Richlands for over
35 years, having entered the
service of the N & W Railway as
a brakeman in 1907.
He is survived by his wife,
the former Miss Ella Shay, of
Botetourte County, Virginia.
One daughter, Mrs. Bascom
Hurley and one granddaughter
of Grundy.
A large number of Norfolk
and Western employees from all
branches of the service were
present and served as honorary
pallbearers. Active Pall-
bearers were: Messrs Lon Meade,
Arthur Dickenson, Walter Hoil-
man, Reece Maxwell, Robert
Horton, and Richard Robinett.
Directors were the Hurst-Scott
Funeral Home.
