Irene was born August 9, 1925, in Colby, the daughter of Oscar and Bertha (Ebert) Herrmann. She graduated from Colby High School. On November 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Royal Awe. She held many jobs in the past including dairy farmer, librarian, emergency fire phone operator, and Colby School employee, but none were as dear to her as her most important job as a homemaker.
Mrs. Awe was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield. Irene enjoyed needlepoint, music, making ceramics, crafts, watching the Packers, and playing a good game of cards. Irene never met a cat she didn't like, a flower she couldn't grow, or a book she wouldn't read. She also enjoyed traveling with her family. She and Royal traveled to all 50 states and nearly all of Canada plus took a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Israel. Those that knew her best will miss her warm spirit and her warm smile.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, Royal Awe of Marshfield; her children, Roger (Phyllis) Awe of Fredericksburg, VA, Wendy (Steven) Kinderman, of Eau Claire, WI, and Janice (Gary) Sterzinger of Marshfield, WI. Irene is further survived by six grandchildren - Jason (Olivia) Awe and Heather Awe, Beth Kinderman (Eric Zawadzki) and Angela Kinderman, and Dana Sterzinger and Megan Sterzinger; great-grandson William Zawadzki; and her brother, Edward Herrmann of Colby, WI. Her parents, Oscar and Bertha, as well as two sisters and two brothers preceded Irene in death.
