SUFFOLK, Va. - James Wilson Mathias Sr., 66, a native of Nansemond County, died October 8, 2005. Mathias was a member of the Suffolk Moose Lodge No. 141. He was the owner and operator of Suffolk Plumbing & Wiring. Survivors include his wife, Michele Mathias of Suffolk; daughter, Darlene F. Hedgepeth of Elkton, Va.; sons, James Wilson Mathias Jr. of Ruckersville, Martin Lawrence "Marty" Mathias of Corapeake, and George Michael Mathias of Suffolk; stepsons, Michael Shane Sills of Las Vegas, James Douglas Byers IV of Gates, and Brooks A.D. Byers of Baltimore; sisters, Betty M. Moore and Catherine M. Ambrose, both of Suffolk, Carolyn M. Byrum of Ahoskie and Peggy M. Carr of Corapeake; brother, George "Tip" Mathias of Gates; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Eureka Baptist Church by the Rev. Cameron Currin. Interment will be in Eureka Baptist Church Cemetery. Parr Funeral Home is in charge. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
