DAVENPORT - Memorial services for Orville S. Pieper, Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Military honors will be provided by Davenport American Legion Post 26. There will be no visitation. The body will be cremated. Inurnment will take place in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.
Mr. Pieper died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.
Orville Simeon Pieper was born Sept. 11, 1914, to William and Anna (Obermier) Pieper in Waco, Neb. He married Mary A. Wiese on Jan. 8, 1944, in Camp Pickett, Va. In his earlier years, he farmed near Montpelier, Iowa, and later worked for Goodyear, IH Farmall Works, Douglas Machine and Engineering and retired in 1980 from Rock Island Arsenal where he had worked as a machinist. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 31st Dixie Division (Infantry) in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. Mr. Pieper was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport, CASI, NARFE, Plus 60 and Davenport American Legion Post 26, where he also had served as a chaplain, and the Golden Wedding Club. He especially enjoyed the years he spent coaching his sons' Little League and Pony League teams. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Davenport American Legion Post 26 or CASI. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Harold Pieper, Spokane, Wash., and Vern (Janice) Pieper, Tacoma, Wash.; and grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents; a daughter, Marilyn; a sister, Rose; and two bothers, Norman and Elmer.
