Carl Nutt, (as a member of the Joplin Police as well as Pam's new Daddy ) had just broken a huge kidnapping and murder mystery. Carl had discovered the murdered Mosser family's remains.
One day while out driving, the Mosser's had picked up a Joplin hitch-hiker who pulled a gun on them. He forced the carload to drive him all over the Southwest and eventually back to Joplin, where he shot each and disposed of their remains. This was a headline news story across the nation! Yet for Carl, the most moving part of the tragedy was the senseless loss of the innocent, little Mosser daughter.
The Nutt parents were both so very moved by this little girl's death, they named their child - whose life was just beginning - for the little girl whose life was stolen away -- PAMELA SUE.

The Nutt family dwelt in a 1920's era bungalow in the 2400 block of Virginia St. in Joplin, Missouri. Carl & Goldie lived in that home for about 70 yrs.
(NOTE** Following Goldie's demise, robbers broke-in, stole keepsakes and set the place ablaze. Much was damaged and it was undergoing a restoration. The tornado of May 2011 completely destroyed the site, barely leaving the cement foundation of the once beloved home place.)
The front door was always open and everyone was welcome at the Nutt house. It was full of delicious cooking aromas and a good-time was always promised when you walked through the
front door! There were comfy chairs and lots of family heirlooms. Framed photographs of family, and especially pretty Pam, graced the place.
Atop the television set was a wonderful, special clock that featured a lil' blonde headed girl in a swing. This served as a sort of pendulum as the figure of the fair-child would would move to and fro. It served as a living room night-light too -- and fascinated all the children-visitors (and adults too.) Several were certain PAM herself, was the inspiration for that yellow-haired child inside the clock!)
PAM's bedroom featured a wall of shelves above the bed. It displayed a variety of pretty dolls. Favorites of Pam were:
(1) a Terry Lee doll - with dark hair and eyes (2) a Bonnie Braids doll - (which was the perfect choice) as this cartoon-character inspired doll was a character from the Sunday Funnies; She was the daughter of the Police Detective / Dick Tracy - and Pam was the daughter of a Police Detective too!
Christmas 1960 PAM was given a Patty Playpal doll. It had dark hair, a dress with pinafore featuring strawberry trimmings. The doll was as large as a real 3 yr old child! Pamela also got a new tweed gray / black & white coat along with a red hat. Santa was generous that memorable holiday season!
PAM kept all of her childhood friends.
They treasured her...

She grew into a stunning woman with a lovely figure, beautiful face and flaxen gold hair. Sadness was woven into her life. A marriage - a baby - then death - then followed by a joy filled fresh start with a new love - the illness... Her life was like rick-rack, it was up and down.

Tragically, Pam developed cancer. She was taken to specialists all over the nation seeking help. Following a prolonged illness, in the warmth of an early spring, she died.
PAM's parents purchased the two burial sites beside her final resting place. Once, while visiting the cemetery, a serious discussion evolved. It concerned which of the parents would actually be buried next to Pam. After much discussion it was finally settled with a toss of a coin. Pam's mother Goldie, lost. When she was in her late 90's, Mrs Nutt still retold the amusing story, always adding that she kept her word. (When Pam's Daddy passed away, he was placed in the middle grave site.)

Decades after PAMELA SUE's demise, several of the South Junior High cheerleaders - now grown women - took Goldie out for lunch on what would have been Pam's birthday. A photo of that happy group of 13-14 year old girls in red & white uniforms had never been removed from its place of importance on the wall. This luncheon happened only once, but it meant the world to Goldie - because it showed her darling daughter. . .
Sweet Pamela - was not forgotten.
