Willis Dale Newman, a Townsend mechanic, died suddenly Tuesday evening at St. Peter's Community Hospital at the age of 59.
Born September 29, 1921 in Fullerton, ND, he married Phyllis Thrasher at Bremerton, WA on January 4, 1945. Mr. Newman served in the Navy during World War II aboard the LST-648 , a tank landing ship that saw action in Iwo Jima. He had lived in Townsend for the past 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; a son, Terry of Toston; a daughter, Mrs. David (Vickie) Harris of Tacoma, WA; a brother, Virgil of Ellendale, ND; two sisters, Mrs. Walt (Billee) Webster of Fullerton, ND, and Mrs. Evalt (Marguerite) Krapu of Harvey, ND; eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be in Ellendale, ND, Saturday at 2:00 PM.
