Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wedron with Father John Waugh celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Ottawa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Rosary at 8:00 p.m.
Anita was born April 6, 1921 in Aurora, Illinois, the daughter of Peter Paul and Anna Mary (Gengler) Hettinger. She married Thomas Tony Jacobs June 2, 1951, at St. Joseph's Church in Aurora. He preceded her in death September 24, 1995. She is survived by her children, Thomas (Char) Jacobs of Sheridan, Peter Jacobs of Ottawa, Eloise Jacobs of Sheridan, Carol Jacobs of Grant, NE, and Charles, Paula and Martha Jacobs, all of Sheridan; grandchildren, Bryce, Samantha and Zeke Jacobs; great grandchildren, Emma and Tessa Jacobs; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons in infancy, John and George; and brothers and sisters, Rosamunda Meisch, Frank Hettinger, Emma Leick, Paul Hettinger, Isadore Hettinger, Theresa Hansen, Aloysius Hettinger, John Hettinger, and Anna Marie Swanson.
Anita was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wedron, teaching catechism and being a prolife representative for the parish for many years. She was a member of the Illinois Valley Citizens for Life and the Catholic Order of Foresters. In her leisure she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, and playing cards. Anita also served as an election judge for many years. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph's Church of Wedron or the Illinois Valley Citizens for Life of Ottawa. May the soul of Anita Jacobs and the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
