Mary Ann was raised by an aunt Mariah (Slater) DeMasters and had a brother, William Slater and another brother name unknown. Mary Ann is found in 1880 Federal Census Ray Co, MO living in the household of Edward DeMasters and Mariah (Slater) DeMasters in Camden, Ray Co, Missouri. Mary Ann married James Samuel Offutt 19 September 1880 Ray Co, Missouri. She was his second wife.

Mary Ann did not know much about her parents as she and two brothers were taken away from her father by two aunts to raise. The aunts were supposed to be twin sisters to her father, which she remembered to be William. The sisters were named Mariah and Missouri Slater. According to my mother, Evelyn Lorene Offutt Lamp, Mary Ann went with one aunt and another brother was taken by the other aunt. She also remembered anUncle Ben Harrison (brother to her mother.) She did not know what happened to her mother as she was very young when taken by her aunt to raise. My grandmother also told this story.

Sources: marriage license Ray Co, MO; Offutt family Bible records; personal knowledge of Wilma Stuart Offutt Granzow (her daughter-in-law) and Lorene Offutt Lamp (Wilma's daughter and Mary Ann's granddaughter)
