Bill Roberts, Ardmore, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 5th, 2014, following an extended illness.

Bill was born on November 3rd, 1929, to Odessa and Honey Roberts at Orr, Oklahoma. He was raised by his beloved grandparents, Flavius and Gussie Roberts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 34 years, Ruby Roberts, and a son, unborn "Baby Boy Roberts", who died in 1953.

Surviving family members are his sisters, Faye Bigby of Ringling, Oklahoma, and Barbara Cochran; daughter, Kathie and her husband Dennis Hester of Wilson, Oklahoma; sons, Kerry Roberts and his wife Kerry, of Madill, Oklahoma, and Kris Roberts and his wife Tammy of Bixby, Oklahoma; also step-sons, Ken Stockdale and his wife, Kathy, of Denton, Texas and Tom Stockdale and his wife, Jan of Rogers, Arkansas; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, of whom he was immensely proud. He loved to call him his "Turkeys".

After leaving high school, Bill joined the U.S. Army and served as a member of the Occupation Forces in the Southwest Pacific Command following World War II. After being Honorably Discharged, he attended Murray State College and then enlisted in the United States Navy.

During his Navy career, he participated in the evacuation of China in 1949, sailing up the Yangtze River, to protect foreign citizens and missionaries from the onslaught of the Communist Revolution.
Bill was a boat coxswain and special boat operator during the Korean War. He landed Marines onto Green Beach at Wolmi Do Island and during the Invasion of Inchon in September of 1950. He helped clear mines from Wonsan Harbor, evacuated Marines from the famous Chosen Reservoir, and throughout the war participated in several operations with U.S. Navy UDT teams and British Royal Commandos up and down the coasts of North and South Korea.
He served several more sea tours on various ships, ending his career in electronics and as a Navy recruiter. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1967.

After the military, Bill worked for several oil companies as a Corrosion Engineer, retiring from Phillips Petroleum in the mid 1980's. In retirement he worked as a consultant, ran a roustabout service, and finally got that ranch and cattle he'd wanted as a boy.

Always known for wanting to help others, Bill became a Mason and achieved the 32nd Degree, receiving his 50 year pin in 2011. He was a Shriner, Member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Plank Owner of the U.S. Navy Memorial, Member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, and a volunteer at the Military Memorial Museum in Ardmore with his beloved wife Ruby. He was also member the American Legion and the VFW.
Visitors to Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson, as well as the Ringling Cemetery, Orr Cemetery and Crowe Cemetery will notice Veterans Memorials that he paid for with his own funds. Bill held the men and women who served our country in times of war and peace in the utmost esteem.

The Roberts family wishes to thank the staff at the Veterans Center in Ardmore for their care and love for our beloved father and grandfather. He was well cared for and treated with the dignity and respect all of our warriors deserve. It will always be appreciated.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8th in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey- Douglas Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Tolbert officiating.

His grandsons will serve as bearers for interment at Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson. Military Honors will be provided by members of the U. S. Navy.
