He was born Feb. 10, 1931, in New Philadelphia to the late Mannasses R. and Edna (Mullet) Yoder, and married Viola "Vi" Miller on Nov. 2, 1957. She survives.
He had worked for Sugarcreek Farmers Equity for 23 years, Eureka Machine Shop for 20 years and Sugarcreek McDonald's for 13 years.
He was a member of Sugarcreek First Mennonite Church, Kustom Kemps Car Club, and Amateur Radio Club for 46 years. He was a nine-gallon blood donor and enjoyed photography for many years.
Monroe was a volunteer at Massillon City Hospital for two years, was an EMT with Swiss Valley Ambulance for 26 years and was a member of the former Shanesville Fire Department. He was a lifetime member of Sugarcreek Fire Department, where he served as captain for 12 years, retiring at the age of 65.
Surviving in addition to his wife,are sons, Craig A. (Carole) Yoder of Baltic, Todd W. (Teresa) Yoder and Eric R. Yoder and his friend, Lisa Gianettino, all of Sugarcreek; grandchildren Justin, Tara, Andrea, Bree and Kyle Yoder; sisters Elsie (Owen) Schrock and Lovina (Andy) Mullet, both of Sugarcreek, Rebecca (John) Miller of Millersburg, Betty (Eli) Miller of Dover, Ora (Roman) Miller of Sugarcreek, Edna (Owen) Hochstetler of Williamsfield,and Diane (Ervin) Miller of Dover; and a brother-in-law, Bert Schlabach of Sugarcreek.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emma Schlabach; a brother, Mel Yoder; and a sister-in-law, Mary Yoder.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, Sugarcreek, with the Rev. Jayne Byler officiating. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the church, where a firefighters memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., or one hour prior to the services Thursday.
