Ms. Mittie Lee King Carroll, age 89 passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 at her daughters home in Pinetops. She was born in Nash County, North Carolina, on September 12, 1924 to Clara and William Howard King. She was a devoted mother and friend. She is preceded in death by her husband Sam Sterling Carroll, Sr. and daughter Elaine Elizabeth. Mittie is survived by a loving family including one son, Sam Sterling Carroll, Jr. of Elm City, NC., Three daughters: Betty Carroll Hill and husband Pete, Kathy Carroll Whitman and husband Danny both of Rocky Mount and Rachel Carroll Mills and husband Tim of Pinetops, NC. Ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grand child. Mittie also leaves behind a devoted female pet named Christmas, which was her constant friend and companion. A Celebration of Mittie's life will be held in the chapel of Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, 2 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2014. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday night from 6 until 8 PM and other times at the home of the daughter Rachel Carroll Mills. The interment will follow the service in the Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount. Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount NC.
