She was born February 11, 1924 in Anderson, Indiana, and resided in Anderson. She was a 1942 graduate of Lapel High School.
She will be remembered by anyone who was blessed to have known her as a compassionate, kind individual. She possessed a great sense of humor, helping her keep a positive attitude. Doris was always there to lend a helping hand. She loved to cook and others enjoyed the love she added to her recipes. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed bingo and always loved family and friend's get-togethers. Doris especially loved gospel music. How fitting it was that at her passing, her entire family was gathered at her bedside singing some of her favorite hymns. She shall surely be missed!
Surviving are her two daughters, Sandra (Passwater) Rinker and Glenda (Passwater) Riley; three granddaughters, Lora Riley, Lisa (Riley) Calland and Angela (Rinker) Graham; three great grandchildren, Mark and Logan Calland and Brianna Graham and several nieces and nephews.
Doris considered the residents and staff at Southdale Towers to be her extended family.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles & Viola "Vi" Cornelius; two brothers, Ivan & Frances Cornelius; and two sisters, Mildred (Cornelius) Rushton and Faye (Cornelius) Holloway.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Community Hospital Nursing Staff and Rawlins House Rehab facility, especially William, Jasmine and Dawn.
At her request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Only a private graveside service for her family will take place. Her nephew, Pastor David Rushton will be officiating.
