Charles' obituary: Charles Brandon, a highly respected teacher in the Linton schools, died at his home in Linton last Sunday. of blood poisoning, brought about by pulling a tooth. The remains were taken to Owensburg Monday and laid away to rest. Charley was loved by all who knew him. He was a very promising young man of high hopes, fine intellect and a loving heart. He leaves an exemplary wife, one small child and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his untimely departure. The News extends condolence. Bloomfield News, April 20, 1894.

The 1870 census lists Levi as being a carpenter. Levi was born in North Carolina. Martha was born in Indiana as all of Levi and Martha's children were. When the 1870 Census was taken, Mary Goens, 14 years old, was living with the Brandon family. I don't know what her connection was to the family.
