Son of Samuel and Isabella Goss Styers. Married 1st Mary "Polly" Harrison on Sept. 19, 1849 in Davidson Co. NC. Married 2nd Bettie Morris on Nov. 12, 1897.

My 2nd Great Grandfather, Jesse was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Company F, 7th NC Troops on November 4, 1861 at the age of 33, for the war. He was wounded in the chest at Fredericksburg, Virginia on December 13, 1862 and was reported wounded or absent sick until he rejoined the company in September 1863. He was reported transferred to Company K, 19th Regiment (2nd Regiment NC Cavalry) on December 13, 1864; however, records from that unit do not indicate that he served therein. A Veterans Administration Confederate headstone was installed by great great grandson John Nash in 2002.
