In the early 1900's Dan came to Washington and stayed with his aunt & uncle, Dorothy (Curry) & Harry Beamer. He attended telegrapher's school and subsequently began working as an operator for the Northern Pacific RR in Fishtrap, WA. Jessie Hinkley lived next door to the Beamer family and shortly after Dan started his job, they were married. By 1910, they were living in Pasco, WA.
