Phillip died at the age of 29 and served in the Gallipoli Campaign. He had been a Queensland, Australia police officer gone to war. Phillip was the son of Charles and Eliza Jane Vowles, of 21, Steven's Crescent, Totterdown, Bristol, England.

Private Phillip Charles Vowles A.I.F. number 996 9th Australian Infantry Battalion. After suffering a bout of influenza he was shipped to England and hospitalized. He died on Saturday 2 October 1915 after contracting pneumonia. He is buried in Netley Military Cemetery England.
