Lige was a Reverend and a miner in Leslie County, Kentucky. He was in a mining accident which resulted in a back injury. As a result of that accident, he moved the family to Berryville, Carroll County, Arkansas in about 1930. While in Berryville, Lige and Lottie lived on land owned by Lottie's brother James "Doc" Brown, a dentist with an office on Berryville town square. Lige's sons Shomer and Elmer met and married local girls and started families in Berryville. Eventually, all of the family except son Elmer Bailey returned to Kentucky.
After returning to Kentucky, Lige & Lottie lived just off Sinking Creek Road in London, Laurel County, near the Dunn Cemetery. They remained there for the rest of their lives. In addition to raising their own children, they also raised their grandson Robert "Bob" Bailey following the untimely death of their eldest son Roscoe, who died at age 28.
