Edward Milton Cobbs, III

The world didn't quit spinning, there wasn't an earthquake, but on June 9th, 2014 the world lost. We lost a loving, gentle soul. As a teenager, he bought a tortured snake from its tormentors and turned it loose. As an adult going through tough times himself, he would leave canned goods in the Laundromat for passing homeless. He saw, he cared, he did. How many can say that? Edward Milton Cobbs III, also known as "Ed" or "Eddie" passed away in Reno, NV at 38 years. Ed was born in San Diego, CA March 15, 1976.

Ed graduated from Herlong High School in 1994. He was a football player, and member of JSA and Milford 4-H. An avid 49er fan, he often helped out with local football games. He attended community college in the Reno area. Ed worked for Intuit. He volunteered for the Democratic Party. Earnest and engaged over politics, a Burning Man enthusiast, he loved a good heated debate. He liked to turn things over and look at them from the other side.

Music, especially live, was a passion. He loved to feel the positive energy of people around him, and never left a concert without having made at least one new friend. Ed enjoyed the simple things in life: good food, fun card games, a warm lap cat, long hugs, and a good laugh. The twinkle in his eye was not a lie. He inherited his love of a good joke. When asked to bring a driftwood memento from the coast, he did; he brought back a driftwood log that filled up the whole backseat of his car. When working for the Democratic Party, and was asked for a small poster, he brought back a billboard. Once he wrapped a gift in an entire roll of duct tape.

He was also a love. When his girlfriend worked a summer job that she hated, he drove two hours, after working a graveyard shift, to put flowers on her doorstep so that she might start her day with a smile.

Ed was preceded in death by father and namesake Edward Milton Cobbs Jr. Ed is survived by his mother & step-father, Susan Jayne (Stull Cobbs) & Ian MacKenzie; former wife of 10 years, Carin Clark-Cobbs; sister Elizabeth Cobbs; sister and brother-in-law Laurinda & Joseph Corron; nephews, nieces, and numerous extended family and friends.

Graveside services for Ed will be held at the Janesville Cemetery in Lassen County.

Like so many, Ed had his share of troubles. When they crowded in, he tended to turn to nature for a breath of clean air. "The mountains are calling, and I must go," John Muir wrote. We hope Ed is resting under a Jeffrey pine, gazing out at Butte Lake, or leaning against a sand dune, watching the tide go out.
