John (Johannes) Sipkema, went to his loved ones April 13, 2001, a man without guile, a man who loved all unconditionally and a man who made his family and his testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ, his most valuable possessions.

John was born on July 3, 1904, in Amsterdam, Netherlands to Lamkje Visser and Sipke Sipkema. John joined the LDS church on June 21, 1921. He served a two and a half year mission in Holland. After his mission, John married his sweetheart of his youth Marie Runia. They moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, in the year 1927 where they learned to live on love while surviving sickness and the Great Depression. They were blessed with two beautiful sons, Don and Johnny.

John was the first counselor in the Netherlands LDS organization until the Second World War broke out. In 1954 John and Marie were called to be ordinance workers in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. John worked as an active ordinance worker for 40 years during which time his wife Marie became ill and died of cancer.

John married Eva Skinner on August 6, 1958. She had four children that he immediately loved as his own. John owned Utah Dental Supply and enjoyed his contacts with the many dentists that he visited each week.

He served in many positions in the church, including president of the Netherlands LDS Branch, bishop of East Stratford Ward in Salt Lake City, instructor of the High Priests, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and a home teacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, his wife Marie, and two sons, John and Don; his wife Eva; and a son-in-law, Mackey B. Boley. Four children; Dale and Linda Skinner, Joyce Boley and Larry Miller, Elaine and Dave Smith; and Karen and Larry Bartholomew survive him. He is also survived by over 91 grand and great-grand-children who he knew and loved personally. His two nephews Garett and his wife Adrianne, and Thys Runia also survive him.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 16, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the American Fork 12th Ward, 673 East 300 North. Friends may call Sunday night at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork from 6-8 p.m. and for one hour prior on Monday at the Church. Burial, Lake City Cemetery.
