In the 1900 census, he was living with his parents in Greig Township, Lewis County, New York, so I am assuming this is where he was born.

In the 1940 census, he was living in Syracuse but but in later years lived in East Syracuse. He retired after working for the New York Central Railroad.

He married Margaet Moody. She was born in 1904 and died on January 16, 1957. They had four children:

Edward R. Bessey born 1920 and died 1939.

John A. Bessey born November 11, 1921 and died April 14, 2014.

James R. Bessey born July 11, 1928 and died June 4, 1991.

Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Bessey Berry of Rochester, N.Y born about 1931.

Former East Syracuse resident, Alson E. Bessey, 83, died July 8th in Community General Hosptial.

Mr. Bessey retired from the former New York Central Railroad 20 years ago.

He was a veteran of WWI.

Surviving are a son, John A. Bessey of Whitesboro. a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Berry of Rochester, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday at Russell H. Schapp funeral home in Minoa.
