The family Bible which was begun a few years later lists her as Zella Day born February 11, 1896. Her tombstone and Social Security Death Index also list her as born February 11, 1896.

Her siblings were: Harvey Lester, Florence Lorena (m. Arthur Wilson Larrick), Bertha Eva (m. John Clayton Silvious(Dean), Ada May (m. Thomas Hamp Metts), Willie Lee (m. Charles Russell Boyer), Joseph Franklin, Henry K. Lee, Charles Raymond, Russell Love, and Lawrence Frederick Jordan. Two older siblings, born to her mother, were Rufus Nathaniel and Kin Cooper Lindamood.
