Of Oakland, Oregon passed away August 23, 2014 at the age of 94. She was born Lois Alice Desire McCartney on December 4, 1919, in Hanford, California.

Lois spent her last few months at Chantele’s Loving Touch memory care facility in Sutherlin, Oregon. She is survived by her husband Milt Cook, daughters Marti Free, Diana Rausch and Shirley Whitehurst, and son Brian Cook. She is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Although primarily a homemaker during her more than 70 years of marriage, for many years Lois worked as a licensed childcare professional and was fondly thought of as a “second mom” to the many youngsters she cared for. Most recently, she worked several hours each week as a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Sutherlin.

Lois will be fondly remembered for her caring heart and playful sense of humor, and she will be greatly missed by the members of her large family and many friends.

Per her wishes, Lois will be cremated. Lois and Milt have been long-time members of the Yoncalla Church of Christ, where a memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 14, at 12:15pm, immediately following regular services.
