Perryville - Services for Ruth Lee Best, 89, of Lannock Drive, Danville, will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Wilder Funeral Home by the Revs Tom Patterson and Joe Vest. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. She died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born October 10, 1914, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Elizabeth Lee Vest. She was a registered nurse and supervisor of the Ephraim McDowell Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. She also worked at the Boyle County Health Department. She was appointed Sheriff of Boyle County in the 1950's upon the death of her husband, Shelby Best, making her the first female Boyle County Sheriff. She was a member of Perryville Baptist Church and was active in youth groups at Gethsemane Baptist Church. She was a former Girl Scout leader. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Casey of Danville; a stepson, Guy Best of Danville; a brother, Jim Vest of Danville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jackie, Chad, and Greg Casey, Kenneth Hill, Jon Lee, and Robert McDaniel. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Finley Hendrickson, Dr. Charles Sisk, and great-grandchildren Robbie Elmore, KIirby Stafford, Terry Kipp, and John Lair. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today. Memorials may go to the Joni Wilder Scholarship Fund. (Update by P. M. Lamb)
