Thomas Robinson Perry was born on February 11, 1925 in Avalon, Pennsylvania. He was the middle child born to Albert and Lillian Perry and was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Betty and Clemmer. Tom graduated from Alliance High School in 1943 and proudly served his country during WWII as a member of the United States Navy until his discharge in April 1946. He was introduced to his future bride, Janice Kaye Brigel, by his future father-in-law, James Francis Brigel, and they were married on February 3, 1954. Tom and Jan raised 2 daughters, Scarllett Lynne and Ann Rochelle in their home on Oxford Street in Alliance, Ohio. After holding several different types of jobs, Tom found his calling as a postal carrier for the United States Post Office where he worked until his retirement in 1987. He knew all of his postal patrons and they knew him and appreciated his timely and dedicated service. He also carried dog bones for all of his canine friends along his route. Tom was an active member of the local branch of the VFW and served as the commander from 1964-1966. He was also a member of the local American Legion in Alliance. He was proud to decorate veterans’ graves with flags each and every Memorial Day. He was a lifetime members of the Elks Club 467 and thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent at the club and going to conventions. Tom’s wife, Jan, died on September 13, 1994 and that day was always a solemn day for him the rest of his life. Tom learned to cook after her death and was very proud of the meat loaves and pork chops he would bake. He moved to Oxford, Ohio in December 2007 to be closer to his daughter, Scarllett, and was an active resident at The Knolls of Oxford Health Care Pavilion and even served as president of the resident council for 2 years. He left this earth on June 19, 2014 and left his mark on all who knew him. He is survived by his daughters, Scarllett (Joseph) Kilgore and Ann (John) Stewart, grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Upchurch, Courtney (Esnel) Pla and Nicholas Stewart and great grandchildren, Riley and Myles Upchurch. Tom loved to hand out candy as a token of his appreciation for the care and support provided by the staff at The Knolls. Of course, Riley and Myles, always knew where he kept the candy and were always excited when he told them to help themselves. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Knolls of Oxford Memory Garden or The Elks Foundations. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 2:00 P.M in the auditorium of the Commons at The Knolls of Oxford. Tom will be buried at Alliance City Cemetery alongside his beloved wife, Jan. He was a great man and will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. The family would also like to thank all of the staff at The Knolls of Oxford for their compassionate care of Tom during his stay there.
