He married Cora Geneva Dildine on January 12, 1957. They were married for 57 years. In 1959, he and Geneva purchased land near Piedmont, which became known as the Manetz farm. They raised five children on the farm. A few grandchildren spent time there before Don and Geneva moved to town in 1994.
He had a well organized shop, working on his tractor or tinkering on other projects. His favorite hobby was bowling. He began bowling at young age and continued. He bowled a 300 game in November 1994, at the age of 69. He enjoyed working a daily crossword puzzle. He quickly learned the computer, downloading puzzles or downloading music. He would research cars that he had previously owned and print the pictures.
Don was saved at the age of 80. He was baptized and was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Piedmont, attending with his wife.
Don is survived by his wife Geneva of Piedmont; four sons, Ron (Lisa) of Perryville, Paul (Dianna) of Piedmont, Terry (Stephanie) of St. Ann and Randy (Janet) of Imperial; thirteen grandchildren, Eric(Michelle) Julian, Angie Livingston, Andrea Livingston, Amanda Manetz Burle, Michael Livingston, Alan Carpenter, Scott Carpenter, John Paul Manetz, Ashley Livingston, Melissa Manetz (Mark) Foster, Ryan Manetz, Jennifer Manetz, and Rebecca Manetz; ten great- grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; his favorite dog Oscar; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Donna Manetz Carpenter and Glenda Manetz Livingston; one granddaughter, Andrea Livingston, and one sister, Gwendolyn June (Manetz) Ferris Hartman.
The visitation for Don was held from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont. The service followed at 4:00 P.M. also at the chapel with Rev. James McCullen ministering to the family. Inez Matkin provided the music and John Paul Manetz, Ryan Manetz, Mark Foster, Ron Manetz, Paul Manetz, Terry Manetz, Randy Manetz and Eric Julian served as pallbearers with burial being in Forest Chapel Cemetery in Piedmont with full military honors being provided by the Navy and Arnold Hodge Post #281.
