My great-grandfather George was the son of Elias F. Riley and Sarah Ferguson. His mother died when he was only five years old, and his father was soon remarried to Elvira Tatman Lewis. Elias was raised with brothers Harry, William and Charles, and step-brothers Edward and Rolla Lewis. An older brother, Albert, died in infancy.

George was married to Margaret Ellen "Nellie" League in 1900 in Annapolis, Maryland. He was a seaman in the US Navy, and later worked as an Indian Agent in Oklahoma for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

George and Nellie had one son, Ellis F. and three daughters, Hilda G., Elvira F. (my grandmother), and Ida Lee.

After Nellie's death, George moved in with his youngest daughter and her family in Indiana. George is buried next to her and her husband.
