Evelyn graduated from Charles Town High School in 1948 and married the love of her life, George L. Potts. She graduated from The American Academy of Beauty Culture in Washington D.C. in 1949. She was a beautician for over 42 years, owning her own business in Fairfax, VA for over 28 years. Evelyn and her husband retired to Winchester, VA in 1989. Recently Evelyn had been living in Ryan School apartments in Shipman, VA where she had many close friends.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Joyce Hoffmann and her husband Robert, Shelia Hutchins and her husband Ralph and Vanessa Spiller and her husband Michael; daughter in-law, Dreama Gibson-Potts, two sisters, Rosebud Turner and Dorothy Cornwell; six grandchildren, Lara Watson, Erin Dunbar, Justin Hutchins, Evelyn Kimberly Potts, Cole and Courtney Spiller; four great granchildren, Cody, Madison, Hailey and Zachary Dunbar and one step-granddaughter, Julie Curilla.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded by her husband, George Lytle Potts, her son George Hurst Potts, three brothers, William Roman Penwell, Nelson Eugene Penwell and John Paul Penwell and her sister Hilda Marie Dillow.
Note: Evelyn's ashes were relocated to Hillsboro cemetery from Amherst Cemetery on July 22, 2020. She is buried buried along side her husband and son.
