Mary Helen Mae or Mayme Gianfrancesco was born 23 April 1899 in Canton, Stark County, Ohio to Anthony "Tony" Gianfrancesco and his wife Mary V Nee Votalato. Mary was the 2nd child of her parents. her elder sister Rose born 1897, Antonetta 1903, Peter 1905, Nicholas 1907, Anthony 1909 and Frank 1917.

Mary married John Rizzo before 1920. They are found as husband and wife in the 1920 census in Canton, and they are found in several City Directories through 1938. No 1930 census was found for any family member.

John Rizzo was listed in several records as a Tailor, his World War I draft registration 1917 in Canton where he was listed as single with his mother as his dependent. He was tall, medium build with brown hair and eyes. In the 1925 city directory John has an address for his shop on Market Street in Canton and the home address is that of Mary's parents, Anthony and Mary V on Liberty in Canton Ward 4 where the Gianfrancescos lived from before 1910 until after 1940.

In the 1940 census Mary and her daughter Rita Rizzo, who became Mother Angelica, are living at home with Mary's parents Anthony and Mary V and two of her brothers. Mary is listed as divorced and not working, young Rita is working as a typist and Mary's brother's Peter and Frank are working as laborers one at highway industry and the other street dept.

With none of the family members found in 1930 I have no information but the Gianfrancescos would have lived at the same house on Liberty and that record is still to be found. In the 1920 Mary's parents are also on Liberty and Anthony also called Tony is a Tavern owner then and also in 1910. By 1942 Anthony Gianfrancesco passes and there are few public records after that time. See his obituary on his memorial and that of his wife on hers.
