Dora Marie Jones Charles, born at Verdunville, WV June 28, 1929 to
Parents Burton Benjamin Jones and Verda Ratliff Jones. Step Mother Elsie Ackerman Jones played a large and important role in moms life as her mother passed away when she was only 4 years old. Dora was 4th in line and had four sisters and three brothers.

Dora was a member of 18th Street Baptist Church in Huntington, WV for over 30 years until her move to North Carolina. She was active with the Youth program, a Sunday School Teacher, played the piano for Church services and always looked forward to The time to make Apple Butter.

Dora retired as an Executive Assistant at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Huntington, WV. Mom truly loved her work there and especially the activities and events held for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters during the holidays.

Mom was known by all the kids in the neighborhood as " mawmaw".

On January 10th 1947, Dora married Orion Douglas Charles in Williamson, WV. Their family would grow to include three surviving daughters and two sons.

On January 12, 2015 mother passed away from complications of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

She was Preceded in death by her husband Orion Charles (1924-1997) daughters, Susan Charles (1960-2007) Darlene Charles (1953-1953) son; Terry Charles( 1952-1952)sisters; Pauline Reed (1925-2012) Rachel Smith (1926-2012) brother; Eldon Jones ( 1937-1964)and grandson, Brett Charles Workman (1987-2014).

Those left to honor mom's memory are her children Douglas Charles (Janie), Connie Barton ( Tom) Mona Workman ( John), John Charles. Sisters Joyce Ruble, Marylene LeFurgy (Norman), brothers Walter " Johnny" Jones ( Charlene) , Dale Jones: 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren a host of nieces and nephews and so many that lovingly call her "maw-maw".

We were always in awe of mom. She could cook, sew, hang wallpaper, hang Sheetrock, repair anything that needed fixing, drive a stickshift and can the best green beans and jellies. I don't think there was anything mom could not do. We always had the latest in style clothing as moms seamstress abilities were quite remarkable. Our Barbie dolls always had the best dresses as mom lovingly made them. She never asked for much and lived a simple life.

We miss her every day but her words and her teachings live on through us, her Children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

We love you mawmaw.
