Josephine came to America in 1896. Her husband Jozefa came 2 years earlier then went back and got her along with their 2 children (Hattie and John) and her mother Mary Pawlak. (Date of arrival July 30 1896 on the ship Patria)

They became citizens February 21, 1914.

Mrs. Josephine Szymkowiak 85, of Buena Vista Township, Saginaw County, died early Tuesday morning at Mercy hospital after a three week illness. A resident of Saginaw county for 58 years, she was born in Poland Feb. 6, 1869, and was married there in 1887. She was a member of St. Hyacinth church.
