Bruno L. Bonifazi, 81, of Derry Township, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 29, 1933, in Superior, the son of late Julius and Elizabeth (Zacchetti) Bonifazi. Prior to retirement, Bruno worked at the former Hockensmith Corporation with 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Rose Roman Catholic Church, New Derry Sportsman Club, which he had served as past president for 33 years, Latrobe Sportsman Club, Derry Rod and Gun Club, Slovak Club, NRA, and Thomas B. Anderson American Legion Post 515, Latrobe. Bruno Served in the Army during the Korean War. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. Bruno was also known for making his homemade wine which everybody loved. In addition to his parents, Bruno was preceded in death by his loving wife, Catherine "Mary" (Rudy) Bonifazi, in 2006; two brothers, Arthur "Etto" Bonifazi and Louis Vesco; and five sisters, Edith Shine, Josephine Liberoni, Mary "Bina" Penich, Virginia Principe and Caroline Zajdel. Bruno is survived by his two daughters, Cathy Bonifazi, of Derry, and Marilyn Barnhart and husband, Dwayne, of Blairsville; one son, Bruno Bonifazi and wife, Tracy, of New Alexandria; one sister, Louise Caranese, of New Alexandria; one brother, Delmo Bonifazi, of Whitney; one brother-in-law, Michael Rudy, of Loyalhanna; six grandchildren, Chad, Andrew, Brooke and Lucas Bonifazi, Jessica and Brianna Barnhart; one great-granddaughter, Adelyn Mae Bonifazi; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Family will receive friends for Bruno's Life Celebration from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at the MATTHEW X. MERLIN FUNERAL HOME INC., 529 N. Chestnut St., Derry, 724-694-8331. St. Rose Rosary Altar Christian Mothers will recite the Rosary at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, in the funeral home. A military service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, in the funeral home by the American Legion Post No. 515, VFW Post No. 3414 Latrobe, and VFW Post No. 444 Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, in the St. Rose Roman Catholic Church, Derry Township, with the Rev. Rod Rodriguez as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Latrobe.
