She was born in Lancaster on May 2, 1917, to the Rev. Thomas D. Abels and Bertha Houston Abels. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1935, attended Asbury College and graduated from Muskingum College Class of 1939. She was a long-time member of Maple Street United Methodist Church, Lancaster, and since 1979 was an active member of Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church, Zanesville. Her greatest pleasure was her church, activities and offices held in the U.M. Newark District. She was chairwoman of the board of trustees when the U.M. Church moved its offices from Lancaster to Newark. She was a long-time member of Froebel Study Club and the Order of the Eastern Star in Lancaster.
Angela is survived by her son, Philip R. (Carolyn) Graf of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Graf of Studio City, Calif.; grandchildren, Stephen (Nathalie) Graf of Warner Robins, Ga., Kimberly (and Robert) DeMain of Sarasota, Fla., and Daniel C. Graf and Sean T. Graf of Studio City, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Madelyn Graf and David DeMain.
In addition to her husband, John G. Axline, O.D., and her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul F. Graf, D.D.S. (age 51); and by her son, P. David Graf, who was buried the day after his 51st birthday.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m Saturday, May 20 in the chapel of Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster, with the Rev. Clarence Dinnen. Burial will be at Forest Rose Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the funeral home.
