About 1856 or 1857, "An article in the January 14th, 1886 edition of the Goldsboro Messenger mentioning a church house in "Chinquepin" that had been constructed in 1856 or 1857 with the support of influential locals such as G.W. Bradham, Reverend James Cavenaugh, Jesse Batts, and Buckner Parker. As of 1886, the church was being utilized by three denominations; the Presbyterians on the first Sunday, the Missionary Baptists on the second Sunday, and the Primitive Baptists on the third Sunday. I suspect this building could be the oldest portion of Sharon Baptist Church. Would anyone happen to have any knowledge of the early church in Chinquapin?"
